View from my home, Valletta

Having lived here for a little over 8 years, the view from my home in Valletta is something quite unique, at least in my opinion. True the surrounding walls are quite high on 3 sides but stepping on a small box is enough to get a better view. The 4th side faces the the Valletta  Market or as it is known in Maltese, Is Suq Tal Belt. The wall here is very low  and wide so i can sit and look down on Merchant Street and the old corrugated roof of the Market.

I have shot a few photos  over these years and my roof is also were i do photographic test of equipment and ideas but two days ago Malta was covered with fog creating an interesting effect when mixed with surrounding lights. They were all shot just before 22:00hrs and with in a few minutes. My initial intention was to capture a few shots just for archiving but i am very happy with the results.

Good Friday 2016

Good Friday 2016 comes from my home town, Valletta. A city with more churches, saints and religious activities than the whole of Malta put together. The Good Friday procession in Valletta is a lovely experience. The costumes and statues have a long history, mix all this with the old buildings and you have a unique experiance.

I have shot this procession quite a few times and it is always a challenge. So what should i shoot this time? While looking around for some good light i noticed an overly excited tourist taking a few shots, all of them wide angles and dead centre. Mmmmm, I’m sure his shots will be boring so i decided to do the exact opposite. Move in close, from a side and as always, enjoy myself.

Hope you like these!!

Architect Renzo Piano unveiled the  designs for the entrance to Valletta on Saturday 27th June 2009. This extensive project was expected to be completed by 2014. Piano’s plan include the new parliament being built in Freedom Square, restoring City gate to its original design of 1633, re building the Old theatre for out door performances, re furbish Valletta bus terminus and a lift from City Gate down to Valletta ditch.

Civil Unions Law is approved on 14 April 2014

After many years of controversy  the Civil Unions Law is approved on 14 April 2014 in Malta. To mark such an important mile stone in Malta’s history the gay and lesbian community as well as friends and families descended on Valletta for an evening of celebration that also included a large wedding cake!

Unfortunately i did not have much time to mingle and shoot, just about 30minutes and before the law was actually approved, so i approached the celebrations from the point of view of the common person in the street. If you were to pass from St.George Square this is what you would have seen.

*As a strong believer in equal rights for every one, i would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all the persons whose life will be positively effected by this law!
