Valletta FC’s Funeral

It’s that time of the year when Valletta FC win the football league, again, and the whole city is buzzing with red and white flags. Its also the time for the famous funeral were Valletta FC supporters stage a mock funeral complete with life sized coffins, mourners, priests, nuns and other personalities.

Valletta FC Champions Celebration 2012 – 11 May

Valletta FC supporters are well known for their celebrations after winning a trophy or a league and this year was no exception. Valletta was packed with supporters of all ages, dressed in white and red waving flags, dancing and singing along. Some wore costumes of sailors, an old tradition in reference to their disliking of Floriana.

Valletta FC Champions- City Flags 2012 – Prt 3

Valletta F.C. have won the football league so supporters have been busy decorating their balconies and windows with red, white and lion flags. These create an interesting contrast with the stone colour of Valletta’s buildings. Some flags are displayed all year round but for the past couple of weeks more have been popping up to celebrate another league title. Valletta supporters are well known for their colourful and lively celebrations, especially those that still live in the City. You will also hear loud Maltese music playing, praising the coach, team, supporters etc. It is advisable not to ask for a translation! Continue reading
